Preschool Field Trip!

On Thursday last week Boston went on his first preschool field trip to the Apple Orchard! I went along as a parent helper! It was so much fun:) I kind of figured Boston would be so busy playing with his friends that he wouldn't even know i was there, but i was wrong. He wanted to be by me the whole time. The bus ride was a little scary for some of the kids, Boston included, so he sat on my lap on the bus. A few of the kids even cried. It was just a whole new experience for them, and some of them were so small in those big seats! Boston and his classmates learned all about apples during story time at the orchard. We all got to taste the apples, and have apple juice! I was so glad i was able to get away from work for the morning. It was one of those "firsts" that I will never forget. Boston's daycare was closed last week so we brought him to a new daycare for a few days. It is a gal from church and Boston had a great time there. Jill said that Boston was welcome anytime! She was so impressed with his manners:) Grandma Peggy came down to Sioux Falls and watched Boston on Thursday afternoon. That was fun for Boston as he doesn't get to see Grandma Peggy as much as his grandparents in Sioux Falls. Grandma Peggy was pretty impressed with Boston's baseball swing! She couldn't believe how far he can hit the ball!!

A sad week.

As most of you have heard, Boston's "Papa" passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday night. Boston loved his Papa so much, and his Papa was so proud of him! You could see it in Jerry's face everytime Boston was around him. Jerry never smiled much or showed emotion or affection but when Boston was around those feelings came out. I am so sad to have lost my former father-in-law, and my heart just aches for what Derek and his family are going through losing their father at such a young age. I can't imagine what they are feeling as I am blessed to still have my own dad with me, but I can only imagine the feelings of loss and sorrow to lose a parent so unexpectedly. Derek and Boston visited Papa on Wednesday afternoon at Hyvee, so we are so thankful that Boston got to show his love to Papa on his last day. Boston had colored a picture for his Papa, and that picture was tucked in his shirt pocket when they found Jerry. It has been a tough couple of days, and even sadder days are ahead when Jerry is laid to rest on Monday. Boston has seen our tears and we have tried explaining the best that we can that his Papa is gone. I know he doesn't understand it all, but I will be sure Boston remembers his Papa for years to come, and that he knows his Papa was very special to all of us.
