Brigham's 2nd Birthday!

Yesterday was a day of celebrating!  Brigham turned 2 and he was so excited about celebrating at his party!  When he woke up I walked into his room singing 'Happy Birthday to Brigham'.  He just smiled!  All morning he kept saying 'Party! Me! 2!!'.  Poor kid had to wait until 4:00 for his family and friends to come over for his party.  He had a 30 minute melt down after we went and picked up the cupcakes.  He wanted to eat one for breakfast so bad!  We had a houseful!  Thank you to everyone who came to help him celebrate!

Brigham is full of energy but he sure brings a lot of smiles and laughter to our house!  We thank God daily for his precious life.  He has given us quite a few scares in the last 4 months.  In November he jumped into a hot tub at a hotel.  Luckily Derek was right there to pull him out! In December, the poor kid fell of a kitchen chair and ended up in the ER with a concussion.  I thought this was the scariest thing ever, until a few weeks ago he choked on a hot dog!  Hopefully he gives us all a break for a bit because I am not sure I can handle any more scares with this little bugger!

I don't think anyone that isn't a parent truly understands how fast time goes.  2 years ago seems like yesterday, and in 4 months we do this baby thing all over again!  It's easy to get caught up with the busy-ness of life and our daily routine, but we really need to soak up every single moment with our children.  Every minute is an absolute blessing!

This year I went with The Very Hungry Caterpillar theme for his birthday party!  Pinterest was booming with ideas!  The decorations and invitations were very time consuming, but I love how it all turned out!
I've said this before, but birthday's are a pretty big deal around here!

The invite!
Invitation Envelopes.  Brigs stamped his finger prints into caterpillars!
Photo Banner!  I did one of these last year and then made it into a cute little scrapbook.  A fun keepsake!
 Happy Birthday Brigs Banner!
 Balloon Caterpillar!
Party Favors!  I picked these up at Target 6 months ago in the $1 section!!  Each bag had a package of The Very Hungry Caterpillar crayons, a snack & a glow bracelet!

The cupcakes turned out so cute!
The birthday boy a little unhappy that he couldn't eat one right away.
Every little kid wants to open presents first, and that is just what we did!  The Gerdes family had another event yesterday, so they were only to hang out for a short while.  We thought it would be fun for them to see him open his gifts.  Boston enjoyed helping Brigham open presents!

A personalized Super Hero cape!  Good for ALL 3 of our boys :)

Cupcake Time!
Blowing out the candles!

After everyone left it was clean up time for Derek and I, and play time for the boys!
The new toys are a hit!

Breadsmith Field Trip

I went with Boston's class to the Breadsmith this morning!  It was really neat to see how the bread was made and how they keep up on the hundreds and hundreds of loaves sold each day.  It smelled so yummy in there!  We learned that the floor is extra slippery from all the flour dust all over so we had to walk very slow and careful.  The kids were all so well behaved.  The gal doing the tour said that the SFC kids are always the best behaved kids!

The kids in the back where all the bread dough is made and mixed up overnight.
Each student got their own dough to shape a loaf however they wanted.  Boston shaped his like a heart :)

The kids learning how the oven works.
Watching their bread loaves go in the oven!

After the field trip, Boston asked if I would stay and have lunch with him at school.  It just melts my heart that he is still at an age that he thinks it's fun to have his mom around!  He even let me sit by him!

Ready for carpet!!

We continue making progress in the basement!  Each new thing that gets done puts us one step closer to having it complete.  Every little step is exciting stuff!  Our custom shelving for both sides of the fireplace & our reading nook bench and bathroom vanity are another 2 weeks out, plus installation, so hoping that time goes fast. We are anxious to see it all complete! That is really the only hold up right now.  We finally decided on light fixtures this week, purchased a toilet & scheduled carpet installation for this coming Thursday!  Here are a few pictures of the progress since the painting was completed.

The start of the tile work in the shower.

Finished!

Bathroom floor. Just waiting on toilet & vanity!
The bar area before flooring.

Flooring complete!
A week ago Thursday & Friday, our trim & doors were installed!  That made a huge difference in finishing things off!  Derek is not liking the gray paint choice.  I think it's such a nice change from tan, and because our basement windows are 'below ground' we won't see a ton of sunshine once we have blinds up.  I think the lighter paint shade will be refreshing!
As soon as we get some carpet, Boston will be moving down to his new room. He isn't thrilled.  He even asked if he could just share a room with Brigs or the baby!
The bar is on hold for a few more months.  We were so undecided about how we wanted it to look, and didn't want to rush into making decisions.  This is also a huge expense, and we didn't want to be over budget before we had the rest of the work complete.  The floor trim stops where there will be brick/stone underneath the bar counter top, where the stools will sit.

The Story Telling Man

The Kindergarten through 2nd grade classes put on a Spring Concert, titled The Story Telling Man on Thursday night.  I had the pleasure of going to the matinee show Wednesday, and again Thursday night.  It was so cute!  The school and church do such a good job of putting on such neat programs.  Boston really gets into the songs and actions, and that may not last much longer so we enjoy it while it lasts!

We were front row, so had a great view!  Brigham even sat still the entire time!
Mr. Covey gave strict rules before the program started. :)  They wanted everyone to hold their applause until the end of the program.  Brigham didn't quite hear that, and he let out a big clap and a 'Yah!!' after the first song.  Boston and his whole class were giggling!  It was too cute. He was just so proud of his big brother!

Boston has really been doing well in school, and we couldn't be more proud.  Hard to believe in a few months the school year will be over already!  He sure seems to be socializing with the girls well too :)  Another 'love note' came home in his school folder this week, and from a different classmate.  He is super embarrassed when I see it and give him a hard time, but I think it's sweet.  I think he enjoys it too, although he would never admit it!
