Trick-or-Treat, Smell My Feet...

For those of you that have smelt my feet, you know that would be deadly..  but Trick or Treat anyway!

I love to trick or treat, but this year was extra special since it was Brigham's 1st Halloween!  The boys' costumes were a surprise again this year so we were excited for the big reveal!  It gets harder every year for Boston to keep his costume a secret!

Owl, Captain America & Frankenstein!
Boston absolutely adores his little brother.
I let Boston pick out his own costume again this year.
Surprise! Surprise! ..He wanted to be a Super Hero!
I'm quite proud of myself on my first ever home-made costume attempt!  I had no idea what Brigham was going to be until last week!  I was browsing Shutterfly for some Christmas card idea's, and saw a sample Halloween card.  It had 2 little boys in owl costumes (ADORABLE!), so I used that picture as my inspiration.  I spent $6 on felt at Hobby Lobby, got out the scissors and the hot glue gun and went to town on the costume.  2 hours later it was done.  Can't wait to try making something else for next year!

Tonight we made our usual stop at my dad's house and then went to a Trunk or Treat at a church in town.  It was GREAT!  You just walked car to car filling your bag up with candy, and they had free inflatables for the kids to enjoy!  Each car was decorated to a Bible story theme.  They handed out candy, silly bands, tattoo's, bracelets and necklaces with crosses or Bible verses on them.  So fun!  We will definetely go back again next year!

The grandparents sure do enjoy seeing the kids in their surprise costumes!

Look at all that candy for MOM to eat!!
The candy looks so tasty he's drooling :)

I hope you all enjoyed your night out trick or treating with your children!  Derek got tied up in a car deal tonight so he missed the festivities, but we did stop by his work earlier so he at least got to see the kids all dressed up.  It's nights like tonight that I really hate the car business job..  but it puts a roof over our head, and food on our table so I won't say anymore.

And before I sign off for tonight, please check out my friend (and classmate from High School) Gary's Caring Bridge site and remember to keep him & his family in your prayers.  He was in a rollover car accident a week ago, and is now paralyzed from the chest down.  He was just recently married and has a 1 year old little boy.  It's so heartbreaking.  The prayers are appreciated.  We know God is the one that can make a miracle happen!

DIY Owl Costume!

I never in a million years dreamed I was crafty enough to put together a Halloween costume for one of my kids, but I did it! I love owls. Brigham's nursery has owls in it, so when I saw DIY owl costumes on pinterest I knew that HAD to be his costume for his 1st Halloween! I saw several different versions, so I used those images at my inspiration and then got to work!

We already had a long sleeved white onesie with some stains on it, so I used that as the base for the costume. I also had a super cute Owl hat already, so the color scheme of the costume was based off of that hat! Brilliant I know :) Here are the simple steps to the costume!

Supplies Needed:
  • Felt
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Onesie or T-shirt
I started with the sleeves. I wanted a firm wing, so I glued a piece of white felt to the sleeve, and then attached the 'feathers'!
This is the base of the wing.
I then cut out a pattern to follow for the 'feather' pieces! Some I cut out individually and others I did all in a row. It really just depended on the size of the felt I was working with.
One wing done!
Both wings complete! There is really no rhyme or reason to the color pattern. Just piece it together however you think it looks best!
Next I started with the neck of the onesie. Once the neck was complete I found it was easiest to start from the bottom and work my way up with the feathers!

The completed project! I put this together with a brown pair of sweat pants that we already had, and also made some 'feet', using a pair of socks and then glued on feather and orange claws! I just slipped the socks right over his shoes! It ended up looking adorable!
What a Hoot!
Cutest Owl ever!
The costume was a hit!
